What is Plywood?
Plywood is the most well-known type of industrial wood. Its name fully reflects this species, as plywood is a set of thin sheets whose thickness varies from 0.5 to 3 mm and which are glued vertically to each other. It first appeared in the 18th century and its use was established in the early 20th century. Nowadays, its use is widespread with the result that it is used in a wide range of constructions.
How is plywood made?
Plywood is made by gluing thin wood sheets arranged vertically (counter), mainly through thermal press. The woods selected come from trees that have as straight logs as possible to facilitate their production and not to have a large amount of wood. Plywood always consists of an unnecessary number of sheets, with the ultimate goal of having the outer sheets in the same direction. At the same time, during the production, possible visual defects that are present in the leaves are identified and repaired – they are covered immediately. It is also worth noting that when the tiles are made of thinner sheets, they become more durable, because the thinner the sheets that will be used, the more their layers, and therefore more durable the final result.
Further information:
It has a high level of resistance to vertical pressures due to its structure (its vertically arranged and glued sheets contribute to this). Also, plywood has the ability to be varnished harmoniously and effectively, which is one of the main advantages of a product made from natural materials (such as wood surfaces). At the same time, most of its categories do not break, do not bend, do not deteriorate and do not warp easily.
How many types are there?
There are many different types of plywood that look forward to different uses. Its main species are the following: marine (birch), softwood, hardwood, tropical, flexible, fireproof, textured, bet film (molding) and airborne.
